Miniatures Monday: Link, Fauna, Forest, Manes

I have two kids, and like most kids these days, they love the effortless, reliable dopamine hit they get from screens. I’m always looking for ways to refocus their attention into the real world with something they’ll enjoy. Serendipitously, my son enjoys mini painting. I picked up the Army Painter Speedpaints 1.0 mega set for the kids so that they would have dropper bottles to use, given the Citadel pots can be a nuisance to manipulate. My son knocked out these two Links from Skullforge in the time it took me to select paints for the mini I was working on.

Once I had my paints picked out, I started work on this fauna-like from Artisan Guild. It’s alright, but I think I’ll give it some highlights and detailing, especially on the fur. I think I printed this on my old Anycubic Photon (the original model), and the difference in the details from my newer Mars 3 is quite apparent. There’s an NPC that fits this description in Ptolus, maybe my players will meet her by the end of next year!

Speaking of Artisan Guild, I knocked out this terrain piece recently. I usually print terrain using filament on my Ender 3, but this piece was detailed enough to be worth printing in resin. I’m glad I did, the surface textures took the drybrushing as well as Dwarven Forge sculpts. Speaking of, I love their Pokorny Paints line for terrain, and their painting guides are invaluable.

I had those WizKids/Nolzur’s manes hanging around unpainted since Baldur’s Gate: Descent Into Avernus came out, so I figured I should get them painted and done. I’m happy with those gross little guys.
