Miniatures Monday: Houses, Hotels, and an Albino Ogre

No, it isn’t Monday, but snow days make winter a rough season in a household with kids, so here we are. And more importantly, I love that alliteration, and posting about minis is easy and keeps me at this.

We had some free time Sunday afternoon so I brought some of the Dwarven Forge bins upstairs and let my daughter have at them. My kids love building houses and playing with minis in them. Here’s an apartment she was working on and the back side of her hotel.

I was happy to see one of the little dollhouse carpets I picked up finally get put to use. I think it looks good! The room on the right is the Palace, where locals can stay, and the one to the left of it is the Tomb, and adventurers can stay there. She had complete stories and relationships for the people sitting around the table in the foreground.

These adventurers look like they’re getting up to some stuff! She told me they were planning to steal some soup. Soup seems like one of the more challenging foods to steal. You can’t put it in a pocket or a sack, and if you run with it, it’s going to slosh everywhere. Maybe she was inspired by the cheddary broccoli soup I made last night from Isa Does It (that blog says they adapted the recipe from the book. No, it’s copied word for word. Come on now). My daughter declined to eat the soup, so I don’t really know how much of an impression it could have made on her.

My son likes to build towns. This one looks a little crowded, but it’s probably realistic in that regard, and at least it’s well defended.

Meanwhile, on Hot Springs Island: Things got wild this weekend in our Sunday game. There was an NPC trapped in an object, and the book doesn’t provide guidance on how to release them. I decided that since they had fifty performers that had previously accompanied them, each performer who contributed to the counter song would add a two percent chance of success. The players had only met a handful of them, and the rest were scattered across the island. I figured this would lead to a series of search and rescue missions. Instead, my players wanted to give it a shot with what they had, and had the troupe second teach them the song. Three of them scored high on their Performance checks, and I added five percent for the troupe second to total of up to an eleven percent chance to succeed at the counter song to release the NPC.

I rolled 06 on the percentile dice in the open. Unbelievable! But so be it, the dice have spoken, and they gained another powerful ally. However, the villain has one more card up his sleeve… They’ve heard it mentioned, but I don’t think its importance registered with them. It’s going to be fun.

So this was all set in motion when they met a certain albino ogre. He’s another Artisan Guild model, painted entirely with Contrast paints. I like him! And he didn’t eat any of them while they poked around in his trash pit, thanks again to the dice.

The ogre’s mushroom pit.
